The Paradise Roller Girls (PRG) are ready to kick off their home season with a BOOM. An evening of Hawai‘i vs. Alaska roller derby action is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Hilo Civic Auditorium.
Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and the first game starts at 4 p.m., with Kona’s Echo City Knockouts (ECKO) taking on Boom Town Derby Dames (BTDD) from Mat-Su Valley, Alaska.
Then, PRG and BTDD will battle in the evening’s main event at 7:15 p.m. in an epic showdown. This is the first time these teams have competed against each other, and there are sure to be surprises on the track.
Tickets are $5 at the door; admission for keiki 5 and under is free.

Food and drink concessions will be available inside—no strollers, no coolers, no beverage containers.
Swing by the merchandise booth and featured vendors to support small and local businesses.
Earlier in the day, PRG will host the third annual Keiki Koa Junior Derby Throwdown, Hawai‘i’s only annual junior derby training camp. Children travel from across the state to take part in this all-day skate session, learning new skills and strategies while making connections with skaters from other islands. Participating skaters will compete in a junior derby exhibition game at 6 p.m. The co-ed clinic is open to skaters ages 7 to 17. Contact Big Island Babes Junior Roller Derby for more information.

PRG is also holding a backpack donation drive, collecting new and gently used backpacks, luggage, baby car seats and booster seats to assist Child Welfare Services. The donations will be distributed to foster children in our community to ease transportation of their belongings when moving to a new home. While at the Civic, stop by the Donation Station with your contributions!
PRG is a Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) league based in Hilo and adheres to the association’s rules and regulations; a camaraderie of diverse skaters of all ages and backgrounds whose mission is to promote a healthy and athletic lifestyle who serves in our community through the alternative sport of roller derby.
