Pau Hana Pet Resort, a luxury dog boarding and doggy daycare facility in Kea‘au on the east side of the Big Island, officially opened its doggie door on Jan. 1, 2018.

Co-owners Mya Burns and Maxwell Ferlitsch say they are dedicated to consistently providing high customer satisfaction by providing excellent service in quality pet care.

The pet resort also offers dog walking, drop-in visits and overnight stays at it’s one-acre facility.

“Animals are playing a larger role in our lives, and working people are choosing to provide them with more options,” said Burns. “Loving families with active pets are in search of quality facilities for their four-legged friends, and a bit of peace of mind for themselves.

At Pau Hana Pet Resort, we cater to working professionals, people leaving on vacation or business trips, and anyone in the community looking for a safe place to leave their dogs,” said Burns.

Burns said daycare and boarding at Pau Hana Pet Resort provides:

  • Relief from boredom
  • Relief from loneliness and the anxiety that loneliness can cause in dogs (including separation anxiety)
  • Socialization with people and other dogs
  • Much-needed exercise
  • Prevention of destructive behavior in the house when unsupervised
  • Relief from guilt for pet parents who feel badly about leaving their dogs home alone all day

“At Pau Hana Pet Resort, we are strong believers in pet rescue and adoption,” said Burns. “Our newest doggy daycare member is a puppy named Maui. He was skin and bone and left for dead when one of my wonderful clients found him. Currently, we are working together to nourish him back to health.”

“Our short-term goals are to raise enough funds through different crowdfunding platforms to install a Splash Pad, luxury dog units, and a full lounge gazebo,” said Burns. “Within the next three years, we would like to add a dog grooming service and kitty condos, as well as offer dog training classes. We also plan to expand our facilities to accommodate a gift shop and a permanent space for themed doggy photo shoots.
