High Surf Warning Continues; Wind Advisory Cancelled

The National Weather Service at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, reports the High Surf Warning remains in effect for north-facing shores of Kohala, Hāmākua and Hilo. The NWS has cancelled the High Wind Advisory for Hawai‘i Island.

A High Surf Warning means there is a high threat to life and property from the surf. The highest threat will coincide with the high tides, which occur at 5 p.m. today and 6:30 a.m. tomorrow.

Due to the High Surf Warning, the following are in effect:

Kalanianaole Street is closed due to flooding between Kolea Street and ‘Oeoe Street.

Department of Parks and Recreation reports the following beach parks in Keaukaha, Hilo are closed: Onekahakaha, Kealoha, Waiuli, Waiolena and Richardson’s.

Oceanfront residents and beachgoers along the affected shores are advised to be on the alert for high and dangerous surf.

Boat owners and oceanfront residents should take action to secure their property before nightfall.

Motorists are advised to continue to be on the lookout for debris on the highway until road crews can complete their clean up.

Hawaii Electric Light Company continues to restore power for small outages in lower Puna.
