With Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build project coming up in just 10 weeks, the organization is increasing its effort to recruit volunteers for the build.

The Blitz Build is a 10-day event from Sept. 13 through 23 that will see 10 new Habitat homes built in Kealakehe. The 10 families receiving the homes are all from West Hawai‘i.

The Blitz Build is a celebration of Habitat for Humanity West Hawai‘i’s 15 years on the island.

The majority of the work on the homes will be completed by volunteers, both local and from the mainland.

Over the next 10 weeks leading up to the Blitz Build, Habitat for Humanity will run a “Top Ten Reasons to Volunteer” series, with special prize giveaway each week as added incentives to sign up.

Each week, Habitat will release a new reason for individuals to sign up to be a volunteer, highlighting the benefits of volunteering. When individuals sign up, they will be entered into a draw to win a prize from the organization. Prizes include tickets to Habitat special events, like Paint & Sip, and gift cards.

“Volunteering really has endless benefits—not only for the community and organization that you volunteer for, but also personally,” said Community Relations Coordinator Amanda MacIntosh. “We want to give our community even more reasons to sign up for the Blitz Build—to show them the difference volunteering makes both for our West Hawai‘i community and for their own lives.”
