TripAdvisor Names ‘Best Places to Stay in Hawai‘i’ on a Budget

The travel accommodation and review website TripAdvisor has compiled a list of the “Best Places to Stay in Hawai‘i” on Hawai‘i Island with a limited budget.

According to the list, which determined the average cost of a two-bedroom vacation rental per week between June 1 and August 31, the weekly expense for Hilo is $896; Pahoa $928; Waikoloa $1,334; and Kailua-Kona $1,347.

In Hilo, the website recommended visits to Rainbow and Akaka Falls, the Pacific Tsunami Museum, ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, the local farmer’s market, Liliuokalani Park and Palace Theater.

Pahoa was mentioned for its proximity to prime snorkeling, natural hot springs, tropical hiking trails and Kaimu Beach Park. TripAdvisor also referenced the town’s reputation as the “hippie capital” of Hawai‘i, and recommended visiting the Maku‘u Farmers’ Market and Lava Trees State Park.

Called “a gem on the Kohala Coast,” TripAdvisor highlighted Waikoloa’s year-round moderate temperatures, world-class golf courses, sandy beaches and calm waters. TripAdvisor also named the Waikoloa Petroglyph Preserve and the Beach Course at Waikoloa Beach Resorts as top destinations.

Kailua-Kona was recognized for its variety of water activities including snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking and surfing. The seaside town was praised for its historic landmarks, thriving coffee farms, and attractions like Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park, shopping in Kailua Village, deep-sea fishing and dolphin watching off Kailua Pier.
