UPDATE: July 15, 7:30 a.m.

As of Friday afternoon, July 14, 2017, Hurricane Fernanda, located 2,200 in the Eastern Pacific,  was classified as a Category 4 system with sustained winds of 130 mph.

The Nation Weather Service Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu issued an updated graphic for Hurricane Fernanda at 8 a.m. HST, on Saturday, July 15.

Fernanda is expected to move into the Central Pacific Hurricane Center area of responsibility on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued information about Hurricane Fernanda on Friday, July 14, 2017, at 3 p.m.

At 11 a.m. this morning, Hurricane Fernanda was located over 2,000 miles east-southeast of Hilo moving west at approximately 12 mph.

The general forecast by the National Weather Service is for Hurricane Fernanda to strengthen over the weekend before starting to weaken early next week.

The NWS added that it is too early to know what effects, if any, Hurricane Fernanda will have on the Big Island or the State of Hawai‘i..
