DaKineQ will bring the tastes of Texas to the Kona, Kohala and Kamuela areas of the Big Island this fall.

DaKineQ will offer some of the cuisines that have made Texas a culinary destination: roadside barbecue, burgers and tacos.

DaKineQ will specialize in roadside Texas barbecue, but in the evening while the next day’s brisket is smoking, DaKineQ will offer burgers and tacos. The barbecue menu will include slow-smoked brisket, ribs, and chicken, with rotating special protein offerings, available by the pound or as a plate lunch, classic sides, such as coleslaw and pinto beans, homemade banana pudding, fresh-baked cookies and brownies. DaKineQ Burger will provide an abbreviated menu, streamlined and simple: hamburger; cheeseburger; double-double; fresh, not frozen fries; sodas; and milkshakes. DaKineQ Taco offers unique taco creations with big flavor.

DaKineQ concept could only be the brainchild of someone such as seasoned foodie and restaurateur Max Rudberg. As a Texas-native with over 20 years of food and beverage experience, Rudberg came to The Big Island for its natural beauty and island way of life. At times he longed for the cuisine offered back home but couldn’t bear leaving Hawaii, so he developed DaKineQ.

DaKineQ has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help with the costs of outfitting the truck with a kitchen and initial business costs.
