Two Hospitalized After Saddle Road Crash

A driver and a passenger were hospitalized after a vehicle collision on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at the intersection of Saddle Road (Highway 200) and Mauna Kea Access Road on the Big Island.

First-responders arrived at the scene of the accident at 5 p.m.

The Hawai‘i County Fire Department reported that an SUV traveling north on Mauna Kea Access Road and crossing Saddle Road and was broadsided by a full-size pickup truck that was traveling east (Hilo-bound) on Saddle Road.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and refused treatment at the scene. 

The driver and passenger of the SUV were transported to Hilo Medical Center in serious condition by Medic 3 and Chopper 2. 

Saddle Road was closed for approximately one hour during the incident.
