Sen. Schatz Comments on FCC Chairman’s Proposal
U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), the top Democrat on the Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet, released the following statement in response to Federal Communications Commission Chairman Ajit Pai’s net neutrality proposal.
“FCC Chairman Ajit Pai is making a mistake. His proposal would take away the American people’s access to a free and open internet and give control to big corporations,” said Sen. Schatz. “A free and open internet is essential to our democracy and our economy. Everyone should be outraged by Chairman Pai’s proposal.”
In a speech in Washington on Wednesday, April 26, Chairman Pai outlined his plan for eliminating the utility-style regulatory framework the FCC adopted in 2015, while still keeping principles to prevent broadband and wireless providers from favoring their own services over services offered by competitors.
