The Hawaii Writers Guild has been created for professional writers on the Big Island.
The guild’s constitution was approved unanimously March 14 at a meeting in Waimea.
Officers of the Guild include President Ray Pace, author of Bearstone Blackie, Detective; and Vice President Cecelia Johansen, author of The Canoe Maker’s Son.

The guild is an independent association of professional writers engaged in the promotion of literacy, cultural enrichment, entertainment, and dispersal of information through the use of the written and spoken word.
The guild’s goals include promotion of artistic awareness and literacy within the general public. ]
The guild supports the equal rights of all people, regardless of race, national origin, sexual orientation or physical condition.

Professional membership will be open to approved applicants who demonstrate in print an abiding and continuing skill in the art of writing, and their understanding of professional methods of commercial publication.
