The owner of the stolen Subaru Outback reported to Big Island Now that the vehicle was found Friday morning at approximately 7:30 a.m., on the south side of Honaunau Road at the scenic lookout.
The engine was removed, he said, before they burned it and the vehicle was towed down to the lookout. The owner said the tow strap is still attached to the front of the car.

Hawaiʻi Island police are investigating the theft of a car from Kailua-Kona.
On Aug. 6 between 6:45 and 7:15 a.m., a gold Subaru Outback was removed from the parking lot of a shopping center on the 75-5800 block of Aliʻi Drive.

The apparent theft victim said he was on a 30-minute run when the suspect stole his stashed keys and shirt from the running club in the Coconut Grove Market Place.
The suspect proceeded to find the car in the lot which had the victim’s wallet and phone in it along with many other personal possessions.

The victim, who contact Big Island Now, describes the suspect as seen on the surveillance video: “He looks to be a middle-aged, bald, white male wearing a black and white striped tank and blue shorts with a left bicep band tattoo.”
Officers want to question a man whose image was captured on a surveillance camera.
Police ask anyone who knows his identity to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311 and ask for Officer Erich Jackson.
