Flood Advisory Issued for Hawai‘i Island
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawai‘i Island until 7 p.m. tonight.
At 4:02 p.m HST radar indicated heavy rain upslope from Kawa Flats. Rain was falling at a rate of 2 inches per hour.
Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Kawa Flats, Pahala, Na‘alehu, Wood Vally, Punalu‘u Beach, Hawaiian Ocean View, Waiohinu and Hawai‘i Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit.
Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
Rainfall and runoff will also caue hazardous driving conditions, with reduced visibility and poor breaking action.
Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
The advisory may be extended beyond 7 p.m. if heavy rain persists.
