Small Structure Burns Down in Waimea Fire

A small structure was claimed by a brush fire in Waimea that burned a total of 125 acres.

According to Hawai’i County Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Gantry Andrade, an accessory-type structure supporting power to a nearby residence was engulfed by flames Tuesday in the brush fire. The residence itself was not damaged.

As of 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, the fire is considered to be completely contained with a fire break around it.

Fire fighting units are remaining on the scene to handle the blaze. Light winds are aiding the efforts of the crew to keep the fire from flaring up.

The fire started Monday morning at 10:34 a.m. near a residence on the mauka side of Waimea, near Poliahu Alanui. No injuries were reported.
