Cemetery Road in Pahoa is back to its pre-lava shape.
The 12-foot, one-lane roadway was restored as part of the Cemetery Road restoration project.
Cemetery Road was buried by lava sourced from Kilauea’s Pu’u O’o crater on Oct. 25, 2014, as the June 27 flow threatened the Pahoa community.
The 500-foot stretch of pavement work, which began on Oct. 5, was completed in a 40 working day time frame.

County of Hawai’i Department of Public Works officials also said that the project held to its budget of $150,000. Seventy-five percent of the construction costs were funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
DPW said in October that the project was necessary for public safety, following an assessment of the area.
