Teen Escapes from HYCF Officer’s Custody

A 17-year-old Puna teenager escaped from a Hawai’i Youth Correctional Facility Officer just before 4 p.m. Friday.

According to the Hawai’i Police Department, Kahekili Krause was being transported from Pahoa to the Hilo International Airport to be returned to the HYCF when he escaped.

Krause was last seen on Kanoelehua Avenue near Prince Kuhio Plaza.

Police describe Krause as 6-feet-tall, 145 pounds, and thinly built. He has a tan complexion, medium length brown hair, and brown eyes.

HPD says Krause is considered dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who has information on his whereabouts or who has seen him should call 911.
