Hawai’i County Fire Department officials were called to Boiling Pots just before 6 p.m. Monday after receiving a report of a missing swimmer in the area, which is along the Wailuku River.
A witness at the scene said that he and a 62-year-old woman had been swimming in an upper pond when they began to be pulled down stream by a fast-moving current.
The man said that he and the missing woman attempted to swim to the river bank, but only he was able to.
According to HFD, the woman was pulled into a rough water area and could not be located.

Fire personnel conduct aerial and ground searches of the river banks, but the woman was not found. A water search was unable to be conducted due to rough water conditions.
The search on Monday was suspended at sundown and was set to resume Tuesday morning.
