The Hawai’i Police Department reports that detectives with the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued their theft investigation on Tuesday morning when they located the object in the overgrowth and recovered it.
Police say that an evidence specialist used the Hawai’i Fire Department’s new ladder truck to gain access to the statue to recover potential evidence. During the investigation, it was noted that the spear was forcibly removed from the lower staff section. Additional investigation led detectives to search the channel behind the statue, as well as deploy a water craft to check the area and do an overgrowth check on the banks of the channel.
Before returning the spear segment to the statue’s organizers, it was processed for forensic evidence.
