The Hawai’i Police Department says a 23-year-old man involved in a three-vehicle crash on June 19 has died.

Police say the man, identified as Michael T. Moore of Laupāhoehoe, was pronounced dead at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu at 1:34 a.m. Wednesday.

Moore was driving in the south bound lane of Highway 19 near the 23-mile marker when another vehicle, also traveling south, crossed the centerline and sideswiped a tractor-trailer that was traveling north. HPD says the tractor-trailed crossed into the southbound lane after being struck and collided with Moore’s vehicle.

A passenger in Moore’s car, as well as the two other drivers and a passenger in the tractor-trailer, were treated for their injuries and released.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine Moore’s exact cause of death.

The investigation continues, but investigators with the Traffic Enforcement Unit have reclassified the case from negligent injury to a negligent homicide.
