Free ‘Citizen Architect’ Screenings in April
Three free film presentations of “Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio” will be screened throughout the Big Island in April.
The Hawai’i Island Section of the Honolulu Chapter of the American Institute of Architects will sponsor the events at the following sites:
Kona: Thursday, April 16 at the Donkey Mill Art Center at 6 p.m.
Waimea: Thursday, April 23 at the W.M. Keck Observatory Headquarters, Hualalai Learning Theater at 5:30 p.m.
Hilo: Thursday, April 30 at the Hawai’i Innovation Center at Hilo, Conference Room at 6 p.m.
The documentary chronicles the late Samuel Mockbee, who was an artist, architect, educator, and the founder of Rural Studio. The film explores his efforts to provide students with an experience that inspires them to use their skills to better their communities.
Through the viewing of the film, architects on the Big Island hope to generate public discussion about design in Hawai’i.
