The Hawai’i Police Department says it has arrested a Mountain View woman in connection to an incident Tuesday in which an officer discharged his weapon toward a threatening vehicle.

Ashley Brooks De Morales, 33, was arrested Wednesday afternoon after an anonymous tip led detectives to her home. She was arrested on suspicion of two counts of attempted first degree murder, second degree theft, and contempt of court.

At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Puna patrol officers were on Highway 11 near the Kulani Road intersection responding to an unrelated incident. A stolen vehicle, described as a black Nissan pickup truck, sped toward the officers in a threatening manner. One of the officers fired a shot toward the vehicle, which sped away toward Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Prince Kuhio Plaza in Hilo. It was recovered during a search warrant of De Morales’ residence.
