The cause of a Wednesday morning fire at a home on Maiko Street in Hawaiian Shores is under investigation.

The Hawai’i County Fire Department says it arrived at the single story home at 11:25 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building.

The Hawai’i State Chapter of the American Red Cross says that it responded to the fire and will meet with the affected residents to meet their needs.

It was not immediately known if anyone was in the home at the time of the fire. Damage was estimated at $125,000.
