Ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro returns to the Palace Theater on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.
The Hawai`i artist has wowed audiences around the world with lightning-fast fingering on the ukulele in his solo acoustic performances.
“We’re so privileged to present Jake to our own local community,” said Palace board president Wendy Peskin.
On Shimabukuro’s latest recorded release, “Grand Ukulele,” Alan Parsons helped expand his sound by bringing in a 29-piece orchestra and a big-name rhythm section, including drummer Simon Phillips (The Who, Toto), session superstar bassist Randy Tico and Kip Winger (Winger, Alice Cooper), who helped with the orchestration.

“The best thing was that, even with all those people, we recorded everything live with no overdubs,” says Shimabukuro.
“It was great, tracking live with an orchestra and a rhythm section. We picked up on each other’s subtle emotional cues – you could feel everyone breathing together. It was like the old days of recording – when everyone tracked together – there’s a certain magic that happens.”
Shimabukuro’s solo performance at the Palace Theater sold out early last year and Saturday’s performance is expected to do the same, said Palace Director of Operations Morgen Bahurinsky. “Tickets are selling fast.”

General admission is $25 in advance, $30 on Aug. 30. Reserved center seating is $45.
