The repaving of Ponahawai Street in downtown Hilo will begin next week.

According to the county Department of Public Works, the project will begin on Monday, July 7, with several days of work on sewer pipes, with road work to follow at the Kapiolani Street intersection.

Construction will be done on weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. On-street parking will not be available during those periods, and motorists should be prepared for possible traffic delays.

The $1.2 million project extending from Kapiolani Street to Kamehameha Avenue is expected to be completed in early September, weather permitting.
