Workshop Teaches The Business Of Art

For a lot of artists the business of selling their art does not come naturally, says Ira Ono, internationally known Big Island artist and director/founder of Volcano Garden Arts.

“The unfortunate end of this reality stick often goes untouched because of inexperience, indifference or a classic case of avoidance behavior,” Ono said in a recent release.

But whatever the reason or excuse, Ono says that if you want to make money from your art or increase your profits, you need to know more about business fundamentals.

Ono will help artists navigate the basic business principles in an intensive one-day workshop, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 19, covering a variety of topics including the initial pros and cons of being your own boss, copyright basics and branding your product.

Participants are encouraged to bring sample art work for Ono to review.

The workshop will be held at the Hawaii Museum of Contemporary Art in Hilo. Cost is $45 for non-members. Call Volcano Art Center to register, 967-8222.
