Household Hazardous Waste Collections in Hilo, Kona

The county will collect household hazardous waste next month in Hilo and Kona.

The events will be held on Saturday, June 7 at the Hilo Recycling and Transfer Station and on Saturday, June 14 at the Kealakehe Recycling and Transfer Station in Kailua-Kona.

Each is scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The events are only for waste generated in households and brought to the collections by residents.

Business, government agency or farm waste is not allowed. Electronic waste also will not be collected.

Acceptable household waste includes automotive fluids, used batteries, unbroken fluorescent lights and household poisons and pesticides.

Oil-based paints will also be accepted. Latex paints will be collected for reuse.
