A wind advisory remains in effect for parts of the state including leeward and southern sections of the Big Island.
The National Weather Service said winds out of the northeast of 20 to 35 mph, with localized gusts of more than 50 mph, are expected until at least 6 p.m.
Affected areas include near South Point and leeward Kohala, particularly the western portion of the saddle and the Waimea to Kawaihae corridor.
Wind-driven waves were also prompting a small-craft advisory for north- and east-facing shores.
Strong winds are not expected in the Hilo and Kona areas.
The weather service said the winds are expected to be strong enough to bring down tree branches and to make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
Forecasters said the winds are being produced by a high-pressure system north of the state.
The trade winds are expected to ease Tuesday and Wednesday as the system moves further from the state.
However, rain showers are expected to continue through the work week on the windward side, with haze and isolated showers forecast for leeward sections.
