A Kailua-Kona man allegedly found with more than a half-pound of methamphetamine in his vehicle Wednesday has been charged with trafficking in the drug.

Police said when vice officers pulled over 26-year-old Derwin Breithaupt they seized 248.5 grams of a crystalline substance, a small amount of suspected marijuana, paraphernalia associated with meth distribution and $2,200 in cash.

Upon his arrest they found another 3.1 grams of suspected meth and more drug paraphernalia.

Breithaupt was charged Wednesday night with two counts of meth trafficking, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and one count of promoting a detrimental drug.

His bail was set at $59,250.

A 29-year-old Kailua-Kona woman in the vehicle with Breithaupt was arrested but released without charges pending further investigation.
