Burger King to Reopen in Kailua
Burger King closed its Kailua-Kona location on Palani Road last fall, but announced this week it would be reopening in the former Wendy’s restaurant in the Kona Coast Shopping Center.

Kazi Foods, owner of Burger King Hawaii, secured the lease and the company hopes to open its doors in July, said an email from the company. Twenty-three of the 31 BK restaurants in Hawaii are owned by Kazi Foods. Eight military and airport locations are owned by Host Marriott.

Komentani Takes Mauna Kea PR Post
Mauna Kea Resort has appointed Vicky Kometani to the position of public relations director. Komentani most recently served as account executive at Current Events, a strategic communications agency based in Kona. In her new job, Kometani will be responsible for “stimulating a mutually beneficial relationship between Mauna Kea Resort and the public by managing media relations, promoting special events, and maintaining brand awareness,” a statement said. Mauna Kea Resort celebrates its 50th anniversary next year.

New Brewmaster At Kona Brewing
Kona Brewing Company has named Billy Smith as Brewmaster for Kona Brewing Company’s flagship Kailua-Kona brewery, where he will oversee the entire brewery operation, leading a team of 11 brewers, the company announced. Smith is new to Hawaii but has brewed Kona beers on the mainland since 2008. The Indiana native home-brewed with his father when he was 13, and is formerly the brewmaster for Redhook’s facility in Portsmouth, N.H.

Median Home Price Tops $300,000

The median price of single-family homes jumped 5.5% in February to $310,000, according to the Hawaii Information Service. In February 2013 the median price was $293,750, Pacific Business News reported. That hasn’t deterred sales, however, which rose to 15% to 143 for the month. Condos sales were also up, 25% on 50 units sold. The median price of condos was also higher but by a more modest 2.4% to $223,250.
