A promotion held by Subaru Hawaii last year has resulted in a $12,500 donation to the Hawaii Island Humane Society.

During the “Share the Love” event, Subaru Hawaii donated $250 for every new vehicle sold by its five dealers statewide between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31.

The money was distributed to HIHS and three other charities, Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, American Red Cross – Hawaii State Chapter and SPCA Maui.

Each of the organizations received $7,500.

The Hawaii Island Humane Society received an extra $5,000 for being selected by the public as their favorite participating nonprofit through voting on Subaru Hawaii’s Facebook page. HIHS received 55% of those votes.

“The funds we gratefully receive from Subaru Hawaii’s Share the Love program helps Hawaii Island Humane Society offer many pets a second chance at finding a loving home,” said Donna Whitaker, executive director of Hawaii Island Humane Society.

“The Share the Love donation also helps us step up efforts to educate our community on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.”

A presentation of the donations will be made at 10 a.m. Friday at Kona Subaru on Kuakini Highway.
