Rescue Company 2 from the Waiakea Fire Station on Monday afternoon found the body of a 34-year-old fisherman who had fallen into the Wailuku River two days earlier.
The body was found at 3:45 p.m. floating face-down about 15 yards offshore near where the Wailuku enters into Hilo Bay, a fire department spokesman said.

The man has not been identified.

A search resumed at daybreak today for a 34-year-old man who fell into the Wailuku River in Hilo while fishing at dusk Saturday.
The man was reported fishing on the bank of the rain-swollen river below the Hilo Armory when he tripped and fell into the water.
Responding to a 5:46 p.m. call, fire department rescue personnel searched the shoreline and on the water using boards, buoys and while department divers using snorkels and SCUBA gear searched underwater along the river’s south shore.
The search continued past sunset down to the “Singing Bridge” at the river’s mouth.
The search resumed shortly after daybreak on Sunday, using a rescue boat with divers who searched out into Hilo Bay and the department’s Chopper 1 which scanned the water as far as the bay’s breakwater.
