Gabbard Begins Mandatory Annual National Guard Training

US Rep. Tulsi Gabbard has begun her two weeks of mandatory annual Army National Guard Training.

Gabbard, a military police captain, reported today to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.

Her staff in Hawaii and Washington DC will continue with their regular duties and constituent services, spokeswoman Heather Fluit said.

When Gabbard resumes her congressional duties on Jan. 17, she will return directly to Hawaii for her scheduled district work period, Fluit said.

Gabbard was elected to the US House of Representatives in 2012 from the 2nd Congressional District, which consists of the neighbor islands and rural Oahu.

Gabbard enlisted in the Hawaii Army National Guard In 2004 and twice has voluntarily deployed to Iraq.
