Outlook through Saturday August 18: A new long-period south swell is filling in and expected to peak later today, and will then gradually lower Sunday. A mix of small long- period east swells and trade wind energy will keep the surf up along east facing shores through the weekend. The small north swell will gradually lower into the weekend. Although confidence is low, a small long-period northwest swell will be possible by Wednesday of next week.
Surf heights are forecast heights of the face, or front, of waves. The surf forecast is based on the significant wave height, the average height of the one third largest waves, at the locations of the largest breakers. Some waves may be more than twice as high as the significant wave height. Expect to encounter rip currents in or near any surf zone.
