Sen. Brian Schatz, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) will award a total of $637,258 to the U.S. VETS and Catholic Charities Hawai‘i to assist homeless veterans with workforce reintegration.
“These programs help veterans translate their skills from military service to the civilian workforce,” said Sen. Schatz. “They give our veterans and their families the support they need, and they also help job creators and employers recruit and retain good workers.”
This funding is awarded through the DOL’s Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program, which aims to help state and local workforce investment boards, local public agencies and nonprofit organizations, tribal governments, and faith-based and community organizations provide job skills training, apprenticeship opportunities, and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, to veterans. U.S. VETS is receiving $387,258 and Catholic Charities Hawai‘i is receiving $250,000.
