Rep. Nadine K. Nakamura released a statement about the flooding on Kaua‘i. She serves House District 14, which includes Hanalei, Princeville, Kīlauea, Anahola, Kapa‘a and Wailuā on Kaua‘i.

“The heavy rains and flooding this weekend have caused major property damage, life disruption, inconveniences and for many people, fear for their safety,” said Rep. Nakamura. “Right now, the priority is making sure everyone is safe and roads and public services are restored. In areas that are inaccessible, a clear plan for evacuation and provision of food, water, and shelter is of prime importance.

“I appreciate the work and bravery of state, military, Kaua‘i County crews, and community volunteers as they begin to assess the damage from this storm,” she continued. “We are all thankful that the Hanalei community has been at the forefront of disaster planning and they are working hard to implement their plan, together with other agencies. We know it is inevitable that we are going to get more rain so we need to look carefully at what happened and do our best to prepare for future flooding now.”
