A kane or men’s halau performs in a previous kahiko competition.

The Merrie Monarch Festival’s participating hālau list has been finalized, offering a great lineup for 2018.

The Merrie Monarch Festival will take place from April 1 through 7, 2018.

The week-long festival features an internationally acclaimed hula competition, an invitational Hawaiian arts fair, hula shows and a grand parade through Hilo town.

Many hālau are returning again this year, such as Hālau Hiʻiakaināmakalehua, Kawailiʻulā, Hālau I Ka Wēkiu, and last year’s Lokaliʻa Montgomery Overall winner, Ka Lā ʻŌnohi Mai O Haʻehaʻe.

Other hālau who did not compete last year are returning, as well, such as Hālau Nā Mamo O Puʻuanahulu and Hālau O Ka Ua Kani Lehua.
