Hunter Education Shotgun Shooting Basics Workshop

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Hunter Education Program in partnership with the Honolulu Trap Club will hold a shotgun shooting basics workshop on Saturday, April 7, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The workshop will take place at the Koko Head Shooting Complex, Trap Range, located at: 8102 Kalanianaole Highway in Honolulu.

This workshop is designed to introduce Hawai‘i Hunter Education graduates to basic shotgun shooting through hands-on experiences while reinforcing basic firearms safety principles. Knowledge of basic firearms safety acquired through Hunter Education is expected. Following a mandatory firearm safety briefing and review of the trap range rules, Instructors and Trap Club members will walk new shooters through the basics to get started shooting Trap. This an introductory workshop, and advanced training will not be provided.

As part of Hunter Education’s First Shots Program, the Hunter Education Program will provide ammunition for your first round (12 shots) of trap. The program will also provide eye and ear protection. Students are responsible for the actual cost of the targets, which is $3 per round (12 targets). If you would like to shoot more than one round, the Hunter Education Program will have ammunition available for an additional fee. Participants are also welcome to bring your own shotgun ammunition, but the shot size must be No. 7.5 or smaller (i.e. 8, 9, etc.). No. 6 shot and larger is prohibited.

Th program also encourage participants to bring their own 12 gauge or 20 gauge shotgun; however, we will have a limited supply of shotguns available for you to borrow, free of charge.
