NO TSUNAMI THREAT TO HAWAI‘I After 7.5M Oaxaca Quake

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reports the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that occurred at 1:40 p.m. today off Oaxaca, Mexico did NOT cause a TSUNAMI THREAT for the Island or State of Hawai‘i, according to the NWS Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, Ewa Beach, Hawai‘i, at 1:46 p.m. HST Friday, Feb., 16 2018.

An earthquake has occurred with these preliminary parameters:

Origin time – 0140 pm hst 16 feb 2018
Coordinates – 16.4 north 97.9 west
Location – oaxaca mexico
Magnitude – 7.5 moment

Based on all available data a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawai‘i.
