Flood Advisory Issued for South Hilo & Puna

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for the areas of South Hilo and Puna at 4:30 p.m.

A Flood Advisory means conditions are favorable for flooding in low lying areas.

At 3:27 p.m., radar indicated heavy rain falling at rates of one to two inches per hour over the slopes of South Hilo and Puna. The heaviest showers have been observed between Mountain View and Pāhoa.

Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to Hilo, Volcano, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Glenwood and Kea‘au.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don`t drown.
