United Airlines Flight Lands Safely After Losing Engine Cover

United Airlines flight 1175 reported a mechanical issue en route to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) today, Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, a Hawai‘i Department of Transportation Public Affairs Office spokesman reported in an official statement.

The plane landed safely at about 1:02 p.m., with Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting personnel standing by as a precaution.

The plane has been taken to the hangar. There is no impact on airport operations or runways and there was no report of injuries.

News sources reported that an engine covering apparently came off mid-flight.
