Mauna Kea Beach Hotel to Host Anne Namba Pop-Up Boutique
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel welcomes back renowned Hawai‘i designer Anne Namba for a one-day-only pop-up boutique and trunk show on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the hotel’s Lloyd Sexton Gallery.
In addition to featuring her signature garments made from vintage Japanese kimonos and obis, Namba will also offer her ready-to-wear washable knits alongside her collection of silks and one-of-a-kind couture designs.
Anne Yuri Namba was born in Hawai‘i but spent much of her youth in Bangkok, Thailand, and Tehran, Iran. After finishing her studies at the University of Hawai‘i, she graduated Cum Laude from the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
During the next five years, Namba honed her design and technical skills working in New York’s garment industry. Her last year in New York was spent working in the costume department at Radio City Music Hall.
After leaving New York, Namba returned to Hawai‘i and began working out of her parents’ home, designing her own line of unique garments reimagined from vintage Japanese kimonos and obis. In 1989, she opened her Honolulu boutique in Mānoa Valley and Anne Namba Designs was born.
In the years since, Namba has taken her “Kimono Couture” to new heights, including adding to her kimono and obi designs by creating exclusive silk print collections and washable knits using Asian themes.
Her collections have appeared in Bergdorf-Goodman in New York, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, the Saks Fifth Avenue Folio Catalog, Nordstrom, Liberty House and I. Magnin stores. She has shown her designs in Beijing, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and many mainland U. S. cities.
Complimentary hotel valet parking will be available to shoppers. Enjoy Mauna Kea’s famous Sunday Brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and shop the Namba boutique before or after. (Brunch reservations are required).
