Mauna Kea Resort has announced the first Legacy Dinner Series event scheduled on Saturday, Nov. 25, at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s North Pointe Lawn. Proceeds from the fundraiser and future Legacy Dinner events will support culinary and hospitality scholarships administered by the University of Hawai‘i Foundation.

“We want to help create a pipeline of talent here in Hawai‘i that wants to work in our industry,” said Raymond Kanehailua, Jr., Mauna Kea Beach Hotel assistant food and beverage director. “Our new Mauna Kea Resort scholarship may open the door for students who otherwise would not be able to afford college tuition.”

The inaugural November dinner will include a reception and three-course dinner incorporating locally grown foods from Kekela Farms, Kulana beef and Kahalu‘u Estate Chocolate. Courses will be prepared by Mauna Kea Resort chefs and paired with wines by Preston Parker or Niner Wine Estates.

The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., immediately followed by dinner. The cost is $88 per person, inclusive of taxes and gratuity.

Organizers anticipate that future Legacy Dinner events will include local micro-brews or house-made brews. The second Legacy Dinner Series is scheduled for Mar. 31, 2018.
