Fire Damages Hilo House

Big Island firefighters responded to a three-bedroom residential structure fire in Hilo on Kaulana Street in the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:06 a.m. to find the residence with smoke and flames coming from the windows of a room used as a home office.

The fire was extinguished at 6:30 a.m.

The loss was estimated at $100,000.

Neighbors stated that during their usual morning walk, they saw smoke coming from the house and called 911.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
