The Hawai‘i County Department of Parks and Recreation had closed of Richardson Ocean Park Monday through Friday, Aug. 14 to 18, 2017, for routine maintenance of trees along the shoreline.

The park opened a day earlier than anticipated on Thursday, Aug. 17.

Some called the tree maintenance a “major makeover,” saying the beach area looks much different.

Dawn Hurwitz So sad, those trees provided much needed shade from the scorching sun 😔August 22, 2017 04:32pm
Michie Morris Why? Those were beautiful trees that provided much need shade to beach goers. Can you really think these ugly stumps look better? A tree is a living thing providing oxygen for the planet. They took many years to grow. Such an unnessary thing to do. Who made this stupid decision?August 22, 2017 04:52pm
