Hawai‘i Community Federal Credit Union (HCFCU) raised and donated $10,135 to the 2017 Relay for Life of Kona. The donation exceeded HCFCUʻs fundraising goal by more than $4,000 for the second year in a row, supporting a nonprofit initiative of the American Cancer Society.

Since 2016, the local credit union has raised more than $20,000 for Relay for Life programs on Hawai‘i Island alone. This yearʻs funds were raised through in-branch donations from both members and staff, as well as outside activities like sweet bread, chocolate and Relay for Life ribbon sales.

The 2017 Relay for Life of Kona took place over six hours on Saturday, July 8, at the Old Kona Airport Park and helped raise more than $71,000. Hundreds of people gathered to walk and celebrate people past and present, who have dealt with cancer and fought to regain their health.
