Volcano Fire Destroys Home

Hawai‘i County Fire Department personnel responded to the report of a structure fire at 194741 Amaumau Road in Volcano on Monday, July 3, 2017, at 5:46 p.m.

They arrived on the scene to find a large, single-story structure fully involved by blames. 

The attached garage with a vehicle inside was not actively burning, but smoke and heat damage affected both.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

The structure and car were destroyed. Damage was estimated at 250,000.

Units on scene were unable to complete salvage operations due to collapsed roofing and smoldering fires underneath.

A night watch remained on the scene as the fire burnt itself out.

Units returned at da break to extinguish hot spots complete the salvage operation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
