The Kohala Golf Park Project is an effort conducted by North Kohala community volunteers, working with support from the North Kohala Community Resource Center, to resurrect the Kamehameha Golf Center located in Kapa‘au.
The former King Kamahemeha Golf Center has been closed for over a year and has fallen into disrepair.
“The course is in desperate need of mowing, weed cutting and general maintenance,” said Harry Taylor, one of the project’s organizers.

Project organizers also said the former operator removed all the equipment, so the group is undertaking a number of fundraising initiatives, including a GoFundMe site, a donation drive through the community center and letter requests to other golf courses on the island asking for donations of equipment.
“There’s a lot of work to be done, with the initial efforts concentrated on getting initial weed cutting completed to restore the tees, fairways and greens,” said Taylor.
Irrigation for watering the course greens is also planned.

Further on, the plan will including utilizing the existing property for a nine-hole, par-3 course with a chipping and putting practice area.
Organizers hope to get the course operational by August 2017, and also implement afterschool or weekend lessons for kids.
“This GoFundMe project is aimed at helping to raise money to offset the overall costs of bringing the course back to playability,” said Taylor. “Help bring golf back to North Kohala with your donation.”
