U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on Saturday, June 10, regarding U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision to cancel his appearance before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

“I am deeply troubled that Attorney General Sessions has canceled his scheduled appearance before the Senate Appropriations Committee this coming week to discuss the Department of Justice budget,” said Sen. Schatz. “Apparently, Attorney General Sessions will not answer questions about the Department of Justice budget because he does not want to discuss the scope of his recusal from the investigation regarding the 2016 presidential campaign as well as his significant interactions with Russian officials. These are dark times if the attorney general of the United States is unwilling to answer questions under oath in an open session about his conduct or defend this administration’s budget.”
