Danielle M. M. Bass has been named the new state sustainability coordinator by the Office of Planning.

In her new position–is a newly added position in state government–Bass will serve as a liaison between government agencies, private and nonprofit organizations working on sustainability initiatives statewide. She will be primarily responsible for implementing the Sustainability Priority Guidelines that are a part of the Hawai‘i State Planning Act (HRS § 226-108). Bass will also be tasked with establishing broad-reaching plans for state initiatives promoting sustainability, conducting program analysis, making policy recommendations and preparing reports.

“We are fortunate to have someone like Danielle join our office to coordinate and collaborate on the variety of sustainability initiatives being performed statewide,” said Leo Asuncion, director, Office of Planning. “Danielle’s experience in public policy and advocacy, legislative management, grants and project management, and community involvement will certainly contribute towards the state’s progress in meeting and achieving our sustainability goals.”

Bass has a 13-year track record of legislative experience, including her service as the legislative manager for Rep. Ryan Yamane. She has been responsible for community liaising, directing legislative operations, and advising policy positions dealing with natural resources, transportation, health, consumer protection and tourism.

Bass holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, a certificate in Disaster Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

“I am excited to serve in this new position and for the opportunity to work with the public and private sectors, and our local communities on sustainability initiatives for Hawai‘i’s future,” said Bass. “I look forward to working together, targeting specific goals that will bring tangible results to protect and balance our economy with our natural environment to sustain our islands.”
