Help Fight Cancer at ‘Bark For Life Hilo’ on May 27

The American Cancer Society is seeking dogs and humans to help save lives at its 7th annual Bark for Life event in Hilo on Saturday, May 27, at Liliʻuokalani Gardens. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. for the event which will raise funds and awareness for the fight against cancer.

The event will include contests for: Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Best Trick, Best Costume and Look-A-Like. There will also be demonstrations and an opportunity for portraits with dogs and their owners.

Bark For Life is a companion event to Relay For Life, which will happen this year on Saturday, July 15, at Francis Wong Stadium. This year marks Hilo’s 25th Relay for Life. The event raised over $200,000 last year, with over 1,000 participants in 97 teams.

The American Cancer Society funds research, prevention, education, patient services and offers a 24-hour, 7 days a week hotline.

In Hawai‘i, cancer death rates have steadily declined over the last 25 years, but the fight continues. The American Cancer Society asks the public to join in the effort by participating in and supporting Bark For Life and Relay For Life.
