Dorothy Anne Amoral, 81, of Pukalani, passed away on March 16, 2017 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 15, 1935 in Pu‘unēnē, Maui.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Makawao, mass will begin at 11 a.m., and cremation will follow.
Dorothy worked as a Licensed Practical nurse and then retired as a U.S. Postal Clerk.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Anslem Amoral; daughters, Vanessa (Emil) Muraoka, Laurie (Vernon) Peneku, and Juli Ayn Burk; sister, Carol Leval; 11 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
Dorothy was predeceased by her sister, Paulette Cordeiro.
Wes Anderson of Pukalani passed away peacefully on March 16, 2017 at his home on Maui with his children by his side after a brief illness. He was 87 years old.
Wes loved spending time with his family including 4 children, 5 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, voracious reader, loved bike riding and gardening. He lived his life generously with integrity & humility and was very grateful for his many special & enduring friendships throughout his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, JoAnne. He is survived by his children, Debra (Jeff) Merle, Craig (Joni) Anderson, Sherry (Charlie) Ortega, Pam (Jerry Shalhoob) Anderson, his grandchildren, Fletcher, Cody, Tori, Chelsea & Cole, his great grandchildren, Burton & Andilynne and his dear friend, Marie White.
John “Beans” Vierra, 100, of Pukalani, passed away on March 12, 2017 at Hospice Maui Hale in Wailuku. He was born on Dec. 4, 1916 in Waialua, Oʻahu.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Ballard Family Mortuary; prayer service will begin at 10:30 a.m., and urn burial will follow at St. Joseph Church Cemetery at 1 p.m.
John retired from HC& S as a tractor operator.
He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn(John) Freitas; son, John Leroy (Marlene) Vierra; sister, Catherine Short; grandchildren, Jennifer (Miles) Sakamura, Michael (Hayley) Freitas, Michele Vierra, John (Kana) Vierra III, Melanie Vierra, and Jayson (Misty) Vierra; 15 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his wife, Mary B. Vierra.
The family would like to acknowledge Hospice Maui for their compassionate care of John.
Fae Kium Im Carlson, of Wailuku, passed away peacefully at her home on March 9, 2017 with her family at her side. After a long battle with cancer, her final months were made much more comfortable by the compassionate care of her family and the wonderful staff at Hospice Maui.
Fae was born in Wailuku, May 15, 1943, to Ah Fai and Virginia Sakuma Ching. She graduated from Kaunoa Elementary School, one of the last “English Standard” schools in the (then) Territory, followed by Baldwin High School, and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. She had a career as a Vocational Rehabilitation Councilor for the State of Hawaiʻi specializing in the employment of persons with disabilities. During her career, she was personally recognized by three different Hawaiʻi Governors for her outstanding work. Following her retirement from the State, she amazed her many of her friends by moving back to Maui and operating a small banana farm.
She is survived by her husband Kent, whom she met in the first grade at Kaunoa, brother Howell Ching, children Donna Block, Brad Shohara, Marcus Matsumura, and Lia Matsumura (Sam Izumi), and grandchildren Kiana Block, Keanan Block, Dax Izumi, and Jad Izumi. Kent’s children Rick (Le ann), Stephen (Stephanie Gaskell), and Paige and grandson Tristan Carlson also had a special place in her heart.
A small private memorial service was held in her home. The family requests no koden. Donations may be made to Hospice Maui, 400 Mahalani St. Wailuku, HI 96793. Final interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) at the time of her husband’s passing. The family would also like to thank the nurses in the Medical Oncology Department of the Maui Memorial Medical Center whose wonderful care extended Fae’s life in a very meaningful way.
Constance Marie Mathias, 83, of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on March 9, 2017, in the care of Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 21, 1933 in Wailuku, Maui.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Norman’s Mortuary at 4 to 9 p.m.; service at 5 p.m.; burial at Maui Veteran’s Cemetery on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 9 a.m.
Constance was a Supervisor in the retail industry. She was is predeceased by her father, Manuel Correa, mother, Marie Correa, and son, Ernest Mathias Jr. Constance is survived by her husband Ernest Mathias Sr.; son Kevin (Dianna) Mathias; daughters, Deborah (Ken) Sinclair, Liane (Clayton) Aloy; grandchildren, Brandon Mathias, Kawika Mathias, Kapena Mathias, Keola Curnan, James Aloy, Jodee Aloy, Mandy Sinclair, Mitchell Mathias, and Megan Mathias.
